PROJECT OVERVIEW

A New Standard for Campus Delivery.

The University of Kansas had a bold vision to strengthen student and faculty recruitment and retention while expanding its research program among peer institutions. The challenge: the university’s funding was limited and the need was urgent.

Partnering with Edgemoor, the university found a new path forward built on creativity and trust. Together, we delivered a comprehensive district that included an integrated science facility, a student union, two student housing buildings, a central utility plant, a dining center, and the supporting parking, utility, and transportation infrastructure — all completed on time and under budget. We continue to operate and maintain the Central District today, ensuring the quality and performance of the facilities as a long-term partner to the university.

The Central District now serves as a national benchmark for how universities can accelerate campus transformation through collaboration and innovation.

A decade after opening, the buildings have become central to how KU operates day to day. The integrated science facility, since renamed Gray-Little Hall, is home to the university's Department of Chemistry along with programs in medicinal chemistry, physics, and molecular biosciences. The new student union has become the largest open gathering space in Lawrence and a center of campus life, and the residential buildings and dining commons have allowed the university to keep students closer to where they learn. The success of the Central District also gave KU the confidence to partner with Edgemoor again on a second major campus development, deepening a relationship that has continued to grow with every project we have worked on together.

They have followed through on their promises, they’ve delivered on their scope, and throughout the entire process we found them easy to work with and extremely knowledgeable, and it would be my pleasure to recommend the partnership we’ve had with Edgemoor.”
